CEO Circle of Friends' meetings provide networking opportunities

The Circle of Friends group, formed by SAE-ARi, encourages open dialogue among senior executives of original equipment manufacturers and suppliers in the automotive industry. ARi invites members of this group, which comprises Presidents, Chief Executive Officers and Chief Operating Officers, to meet at automotive industry events throughout the year to network and discuss industry challenges and trends. In many instances, these valuable meetings result in arrangements for ARi to visit the executives' organizations and present the benefits of its consulting program.

Venues for Circle of Friends meetings include the SAE World Congress, SAE Detroit Section dinners, and executive seminars in Detroit, Traverse City, Mich., and Greenbrier, W.V. The group also meets for a periodic breakfast. A renowned guest speaker opens each breakfast by addressing a topic of interest to industry executives, engaging the 20-30 attendees in an honest and often lively discussion.

Previous guest speakers and topics at the Circle of Friends breakfast include:

  • John McElroy, Editorial Director, Blue Sky Productions, Inc.
A noted radio and newspaper spokesman in the automotive industry, McElroy discussed the importance of niche vehicles in the industry, and how suppliers can leverage this growing trend into a profitable venture.

  • Laurie Harbour-Felax, President, Harbour-Felax Group and Managing Director, Stout Risius Ross
Harbour-Felax reviewed the results of a study she conducted with Jim Harbour that documented the structural challenges of the major North American manufacturers.

  • Steve Miller, Chief Executive Officer, Delphi Corporation
Miller spoke on the challenges and forces affecting an organization going through bankruptcy.

  • Bill Kozyra, President and CEO of Continental AG NA
Kozyra discussed challenges and opportunities in a major acquisition.

  • Tony Stokes, Vice President, 3M Automotive Division
Stokes explored the challenges and opportunities of doing business in Russia.

ARi plans to continue hosting these beneficial meetings.
